YELLOW PARADISE

The definition of paradise is an ideal place or state.  That's exactly what I thought when I spotted this fabric at Unique. Hibiscus, parrots, and palms. The only thing missing is a colrefreshing fruity drink.

Cut and attached waist band.

ALL DONE!

KIMONO BABY

Kimonos are my new "go to" piece. A tank top and jeans are easily taken to the next level. Add a bold statement necklace and you're set. That's exactly what I did with this project.

I picked up this tribal/ethnic print at Unique and wasn't sure what to make.
To be completely honest, this kimono was supposed to be a dress.
I cut it wrong and it was too small. Hey, when life give
you lemons, make lemonade!

I used a wide sleeved dress as my pattern.

Took my yardstick to slant the bottom.

Cut straight down the middle of one side,
Sewed the arms and sides together.

To make a neat hem, I folded the edges twice and used tape instead of pins.
(p.s. it took a while to remove the little pieces of tape)

 Easy Breezy!

"I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR..."

How many times have you said that? Well, if you don't have anything to wear, you can always sew something. Yesterday, I said to myself, "I need a blue skirt". So instead of going shopping, I foraged through my fabric bin and proceeded to make the following. Which by the way, took less than 2 hours to make.

I wanted to make a skater skirt with no seam, but when I repeated the skater skirt
process, and folded it twice, there wasn't enough fabric width wise. So, I only folded
the  material in half this time. To make the waistline, I measured down 10 1/2 inches
and then 20 inches from that mark to make the hemline.

Cut the hem and waistline.

As it turned out, the waistline was too big. Why? Because I forgot
this fabric had a stretch to it. So, I pinned the two sides together,
measured about an inch and cut off the excess. Sewed the seams together.

Measured and cut 4 inches for the waistband.

 Folded in half.

PEARL PEARLS PEARLS

Pearls Pearls Pearls all over the world. Isn't this fabric divine?  I picked it up at Unique for $2.99.
What would you make with a delicate fabric such as this? How about pillow shams?

This has to be the easiest project ever. Place pillow on fabric and cut around pillow.
Since the pillow should fit snug in the sham, seam allowance isn't necessary.

Turn inside out and sew the two sides together.

Use the first one you make as a pattern for the second sham.

Slide in pillow and you're basically done.

I cut off the scraggly strings and used a zig zag stitch on the edge to prevent further fraying.

VOILA!

Made paisley and chevron pillows on a previous project.

GREEN WITH ENVY

My wardrobe consists of mostly black, white and prints. But with the Spring/Summer season
approaching, I want to add bolder colors. So when I saw this lovely green fabric
from Unique for $3.99 for 1 yard, I was all over it.

Repeated the skater skirt process. Cut the waistline and hemline.

Cut, folded and ironed 4 inches for the waistband.

After attaching the waistband, I taped and sewed the zipper in the middle of the seam.

This zipper is too long, so I sewed/back stitched across where
I want it to end, and I cut off the bottom of the zipper.

Don't you know after all that work, the waistband was too big.
So what did I do? Cut the zipper out and just sewed the two seams together.
Since, the material has a little stretch, I just wiggled my way into it.
